Senior Clinical Programming Specialist

JOB DESCRIPTION:This position will function as an integral member of Clinical Study Teams. The position will provide technical and statistical programming-related expertise and advice to the Clinical Study Teams. The major responsibilities include:

  • Report to and work with the Department Head to plan staffing for projects under his/her responsibility.
  • Establish project standards in analysis, reporting, and query software in collaboration with the Project Statistician.
  • Independently plan software to support all study analysis and reporting needs including identifying applicability of standard software to project and specifying necessary modifications.
  • Identify needs and write specifications for non-standard software, coordinate and participate in the efficient implementation of software development by assigning work and providing technical direction and review to Clinical Programming Specialists and other assigned staff.
  • Implement necessary modifications to standardized software, and validate and execute new software.
  • Act as a technical resource to the department, complying with all relevant SOPs, policies, and guidelines as well as monitoring compliance of assigned junior staff.
  • Contribute where appropriate to the development of standards for the database design and data management of clinical studies, administer the security system for clinical staff access to Oracle Clinical and data analysis and reporting repositories as required.
  • Actively seek to keep abreast of technical developments by attendance at professional meetings.
  • REQUIREMENTS: BS/BA/equivalent (MS/MA a plus) in Computer Science, Statistics or other sciences and at least 5 years experience in statistical programming for clinical trials in the pharmaceutical industry. Excellent programming skills in SAS and knowledge of relational databases (e.g., Oracle/Clinical). Must be a proven team player with excellent oral/written communication, project planning, and management skills. Ability to prioritize and multi-task, and knowledge of clinical aspects of the drug development process.

    Statistician/Algorithm Developer

    Cytokinetics, Inc., South San Francisco, CA

    Description: Develop statistically based algorithms for Cytometrix, a cellular phenotyping information product. The Cytometrix platform allows comprehensive characterization of attractive drug candidates much earlier in the drug discovery process. The statistical work involves the development of techniques for data cleaning, novel algorithms to transform the raw data to biologically interpretable statistics and the performing of cluster analysis and classification on drug candidates.

    Requirements: Graduate level training in statistics and strong computer skills required. Experience or course work in multivariate statistics, cluster analysis, classification and computational statistics would be helpful. Experience with S+ or Matlab is required. Knowledge of C/C++, Java or PERL is a plus.

    Contract Pharmaceutical Biostatistician
