The Training in Clinical Research Program at the University of California, San Francisco invites applications for a part-time instructor of introductory biostatistics. 

Duties:  The successful candidate will direct a 10 week quarter-length course in introductory biostatistics tailored to an audience of health care professionals (physicians, dentists, pharmacists, and nurses) who are learning the methods of clinical research.  This course is given once a year in the Fall quarter.  Topics to be covered include:  data summarization and exploration; probability and probability distributions; sampling distributions; parametric and nonparametric hypothesis testing for comparing continuous and categorical outcomes between groups; and correlation and simple linear regression.  The schedule includes a weekly 2 hour lecture on Tuesday morning and one weekly 1 hour laboratory session on Thursday morning.  The course director will be responsible for establishing the syllabus, delivering all lectures, and supervising the laboratory curriculum.  Instructional assistants are available to perform grading.  The prior yearŐs syllabus can be found at:  http://www.epibiostat.ucsf.edu/courses/schedule/biostat200.html. 

 

Qualifications: PhD with training and teaching experience in biostatistics.  Exceptional candidates with MasterŐs level training and teaching experience will also be considered.  Candidates must have demonstrated strength as an effective and creative teacher to diverse audiences.

Statistical Programmer, Health Policy Research

 

You will assist with projects related to research in the areas of quality improvement, health care financing and organization, medical informatics and/or clinical research.

 

Requires a MasterŐs in Statistics, Biostatistics, Informatics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science or related field; minimum 2 yearsŐ experience in statistical programming and statistics; experience with large, relational databases; demonstrated proficiency in SAS (Base, Stat, Graph, Access), Windows and SQL; excellent quantitative data analysis skills; and the ability to manage multiple projects.

 

Ph.D. or Dr.P.H; experience with transactional and clinical databases with a mindfulness for data validation, quality, programming efficiency and size; experience working on a research team with statisticians and physicians; minimum 2 yearsŐ experience using SAS 9.x; and experience with SAS 9.2, Enterprise Guide 4.x, JMP 7.0+, Stata 10+, R/Splus plus any experience using Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop for retouching graphs and visuals is preferred.
