Bay Area Chapter Members
Call for Volunteers to Speak about ÒCareers in StatisticsÓ
to Local High School Students in May
For the past 6 consecutive years, our Chapter has arranged
for several Chapter volunteers to give a 50 minute lecture on ÒCareers in
StatisticsÓ to AP statistics students at Menlo Atherton High school. The feedback has been enthusiastic. The lectures are presented after the AP
Statistics Exam (May 12, 2016) and before the end of school year We
also publish the event description and speaker names in the AMSTAT news.

We are asking for volunteers from the chapter who can give
one 50 minute lecture. There are several AP statistics
classes and speakers are welcome to give up to three 50 minute lectures (150
minutes) on Careers in Statistics to AP statistics students. If you do intend to do multiple
lectures, since it will be presented to different classes, the content of your
lecture could remain identical.
Volunteers need to provide a power point slide deck to the
AP statistics teacher prior to the lecture. Based on student and teacher feedback,
successful speakers are those who interact and ask students questions rather
than give a single non-stop graduate style statistics lecture. This is not a
technical talk, but a lecture on career advice to high school students. Therefore,
please consider prepare your lecture to encourage dynamic interactions and
proactively engaging students.
If you are interested, please send a quick note to sfasaofficers@gmail.com by April 22nd Friday including
